Why Star Compass?
When we think about direction or finding our direction, we use a compass. This helps us find magnetic north and it's the same (more or less) for all of us. But in reality, the direction we want to go changes with different seasons in our lives.
A star compass is an ancient device that allowed our forebears to navigate by the stars and find their direction without magnets. As stars' positions change, it allowed sailors and navigators to find their way by watching the world around them, and determining their place in it- readjusting which stars to drive towards as the seasons changed.
Life changes, changes in the market, or even our own journeys of self discovery can make us reassess if the direction we've been heading, or the goals we've been driving towards, are still the right ones for us. This might happen because:
You're retiring or stepping away from your first career and are ready to embark on your next one. I see this one a lot as folks retire from military or law enforcement careers and are trying to figure out where and how they can apply their skills.
You've had family changes and you need to make shifts in your work-life. Maybe you've had children or are taking on elder care and need a different kind of balance or flexibility in your job.
You've been in the same role without any growth for a long time and you're ready for something different. It can be easy to stick to firefighting and task fighting in your current role and become absorbed and comfortable in what you're doing. Growth isn't always top of mind. And then one day you wake up and realize that there's a wider world out there- but how to step into it?
You've started on your self-discovery journey and realized you want to make a change. One of my favorite things about the world today is the increased focus on introspection and mental health. But that can make us take some hard looks at where we are and where we want to be.
Maybe you've been just fortuitously swept along in the current through your life and are ready to take more agency in your future. Or maybe you have realized you actually don't love what you're doing. Maybe you're just ready for your next thing and want some help on where to start.
That's where Star Compass Coaching can help. Whatever season of life you're in, whatever you're struggling with, at the center of your compass is you. There is no one path for everyone. We're all in different seasons, with different stars on our horizons. I'd love to help you chart your own path to success.
